Although many studies indicate that the bioactive components of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) possess anti-cancer properties, currently there is insufficient scientific evidence to substantiate TCM’s role in the treatment of lymphoma. This article analyzed relevant medical publications to explore the potential roles of TCM as a therapeutic solution for lymphoma to optimize patient outcomes. Certain TCM compound has been studied as a complementary treatment in reducing adverse effects of chemotherapy for lymphoma patients. Laboratory and animal studies have also explored how TCM compounds or formulas might have anti-cancer effect, including but not limited to, inducing apoptosis in lymphoma cells, inhibiting tumor proliferation, invasion and metastasis as well as modulating immune responses. However, most anti-tumor TCM monomers have not reached clinical research, resulting in limited proven evidence to substantiate their efficacy and safety in treating lymphoma. To address this, it is suggested that future research should prioritize the structural modification of active compounds, combination therapies, and comprehensive mechanistic studies to elucidate the underlying biological actions of TCM therapies. Additionally, large-scale, placebo-controlled clinical trials are necessitated to rigorously evaluate the efficacy and safety of TCM in lymphoma treatment and to minimize adverse effects or undesirable drug interactions.
